Hill College Board of Regents holds December 2023 monthly meeting

On December 19, 2023, the Hill College Board of Regents met for the monthly regular session meeting.

The minutes from the November meeting were approved. The financial report was also presented and approved. Enrollment updates were also presented; enrollment is up for the fall semester.

Hill College President Dr. Thomas Mills presented his report, beginning with end of the semester student events and the Hill College Players’ presentation of The Christmas Carol Farce by Jon Jory and Bigelow Dixon, which took place December 7–9, 2023.

Personnel updates were also presented and approved.

Interim Athletic Director and Dean of Students Randy Graves presented the athletic report, including standings and the three athletes who were selected as All-Americans for the women’s soccer team— Sophomore Gaia Chies, Sophomore Libbie Mayfield, and Sophomore Davia Richards. Dr. Mills presented a consideration of approval for the deferred maintenance plan for the 2023–2024 fiscal year, including the updates to the Bob Bullock Sports Center at a cost of $1,100,513 and updates to the softball field at a cost of $995,398. The motion was passed.

Vice President of Student Learning & Success Irene Accomando presented a consideration of approvals for an affiliation agreement with Castle Branch, Inc., for background checks for the Echocardiography Program. She also presented a consideration of affiliation agreement with the Hillsboro Fire Department for the EMS Program. The motions were approved.

Vice President of Institutional Affairs Jessyca Brown presented a consideration of approval for the event rental rate changes, including changes for information technology fees. The motion was approved.

Vice President of Administrative Services Billy Don Curbo presented a consideration of approval for a pilot program at the Johnson County Campus charging cosmetology supply kit costs to the student upon registration opposed to a separate purchase from the bookstore. The motion was approved.

The board was also made aware of the upcoming election positions open for May of 2024. To be placed on the ballot, candidates must file between January 17 and February 16, 2024. Positions are open in Hillsboro, Itasca, and Whitney. Interested candidates should contact the president’s office at 254-659-7502.

Members absent: Kent Eubank, Dr. Allan Lane, Jennifer Nowlin, and Rick Sullins.
